Jargon Buster

Within the youth cabinet we use a lot of strange and specific language, hopefully after reading this short post you will have a greater understanding of the language and abbreviations commonly used.


GMYCA Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority - This is group as you may have guessed of various youth projects who meet once a month to discuss issues and possible ways to combat them, along with sharing knowledge.


UKYP UK youth parliament - Who we answer too, the countrywide group with the aims of facilitating young people to know their own power and make change where ever they live.


BYC

British youth council - We empower young people aged 25 and under to influence and inform the decisions that affect their lives. We support young people to get involved in their communities and democracy locally, nationally and internationally, making a difference as volunteers, campaigners, decision-makers and leaders.


YOFO

Youth Focus (north west) - Youth Focus North East is an independent charity with the overall vision to improve the lives of young people through high quality youth work. We exist for the benefit of young people and the organisations which support them. Working together we, invest in the lives of young people, to create lasting change in their own lives and the communities in which they live. Our organisation is rooted in the values of good youth work.


Youthforia

Youth get together ran by YOFO for people across greater manchester normally taking place in a different location each time.

MYP’s

Members of youth parliament - these are the democratically elected members of parliament for the local area, we currently have Meera and Ronan


DMYP’s

The same as above but - Deputy Members of youth parliament.
